Organizational History
Corwin Medical Care (CMC) is an independent primary care group located in Plainfield, IL. Our organization began in Lemont in 1984 with the purchase of a solo internal medicine practice from Dr. Zenon Kowaliczko. The origins of the practice actually date back to the 1940’s when Dr. Caldwell opened the Lemont office. Bruce Corwin, MD joined the practice in 1984 and initially continued on as a traditional solo practice.

In 1989, Dr. Corwin responded to the community need for additional physicians, by opening a second office in a strip mall on the south side of Plainfield, IL. At that time, the community was small but poised to grow rapidly as one of Chicago’s most distant southwest suburbs.

By 1992 our practice had grown to a size that allowed for the recruitment of a family practice physician. His personable manner proved to be highly attractive to patients accelerated our growth and allowed for the recruitment of Dr. Arthur Pettigrew, MD to our practice.

By 1994 our practice had grown, allowing us to move to our current location just south of the original Plainfield office. Since 1984, CMC has grown from a solo practice with a staff of two to a group practice of over ten physicians and mid-level providers with a staff of over fifty full-time and part-time employees.

Organizational Description

Our Core Values Are

  • Pursuit of Excellence
  • Personal Integrity
  • Mutual Respect

Our Core Purpose Is
To serve a higher purpose as we work caring for our patients.

Our Goal
We strive to be a center of excellence in adult and pediatric primary care medicine. We seek to develop personal relationships with our patients. We endeavor to treat their bodies, as well as, to provide care for their minds, hearts and spirits.

Description Of The Practice
Corwin Medical Care physicians care for all family members from infants to seniors. Since illness affects the entire family, we manage the health care of the each member.

We are convinced of the value of a family physician, internist and pediatrician. Through repeated visits with a patient, we develop a trusting relationship, provide continuity of care and treat all aspects of an individual’s needs. To provide comprehensive care, we must remain knowledgeable and aware of new research data, diagnostic technology, pharmaceutical products and treatment methods. All of our physicians and nurse practitioners are required to accumulate educational hours every year to expand their knowledge in the ever-changing field of medicine.

While we do provide comprehensive care for the entire family, we also recognize that the field of medicine has become so complex that no one physician can be an expert in all areas. As a result, each of our physicians has developed areas of special focus including: Diabetes, Arterial Health, Women’s Health and Pediatrics. In addition, for cases that require even more specialized treatment, we have established a referral network of the Plainfield area’s most qualified specialists.

We believe in the prevention and the early detection of medical problems. Through regular check ups, your personal physician may be able to detect cancer and prevent heart attacks and strokes before they strike. For this reason, we developed a Preventative Health Maintenance Program that, in addition to an exam and laboratory screening, offers an immunization update and counseling on lifestyle changes.

We realize that acute illnesses often cannot conveniently be treated during your doctor’s scheduled office hours, so we provide walk-in patient care seven days a week, through Corwin 1st Care.

Monday through Friday, during daytime and evening office hours, our patient’s personal physician manages acute onset and persistent medical conditions. Since we feel that the best medical care is delivered in person, we try to avoid telephone management of medical problems and strive to ensure that appointments are readily available to allow patients timely access to their personal physician. In the event your personal physician is unavailable, the group always has a physician available to provide care. The covering physician has access to your medical records, including diagnostic test results, hospital reports, specialist consults, current medications and past medical history, through our state-of-the-art electronic medical records system.

Corwin Medical Care manages the majority of all patient primary care needs on-site at the Village Medical Center in Plainfield, IL. In addition to adult men’s, women’s and pediatric healthcare, we provide OB/GYN, physical therapy, dietitian counseling and diabetes educational courses. Available diagnostic testing includes Laboratory, EKG, X-ray, and Bone Densometery (for detection of osteoporosis).

Part of our role as your primary care physician is to coordinate your care when advanced diagnostic testing is required. We have carefully assessed the quality of Plainfield area Mammography, MRI, CT and Ultrasound facilities and direct our patients only to those facilities that meet our high standards. Referrals for Virtual Colonoscopy, Heart Scans and PET scans are also available.

We participate with most PPO plans and a growing number of HMO, POS and EPO plans. We understand that you deserve and expect value for their health care dollar, and are constantly striving to both improve quality while providing patients with cost effective care.

We understand that even the best physician cannot provide quality care without being surrounded by caring and competent staff working as a diversified health care team. While working as a team member of our busy primary care practice is challenging, our staff maintains a caring attitude and is focused on providing timely service. Our doctors, administrators and patients appreciate and value our staff for their dedicated contributions to our successful team.
